Welcoming the New Year

As a new year approaches, we thought we would share some tips with you for making 2014 a successful and productive year.  We want you to put your best foot forward in 2014.

Find ‘me time’
We spend so much time rushing about and getting things done, that we often forget to take some time for ourselves.  Put aside time to do something that relaxes you.  It could be something as simple as reading a book, watching your favourite program on television, meeting up with friends or treating yourself to a facial.

Rest
Dedicate enough hours to getting some sleep.  You know that feeling when you wake up in the morning after a good night’s sleep?  You need more mornings like that! 

Exercise
You don’t have to go running at 5 am if that’s really not your thing, but find the time to do even a simple workout, and stick with it.  You would be surprised at the difference it can make.

Nourish your body
Don’t skip breakfast.  As you should already know, this is the most important meal of the day.  Also, don’t forget to have lunch and dinner.  That document on your desk or that favour you promised a friend can wait a bit until after you have eaten.  Make wise food choices throughout the day.  Remember that what you eat impacts your health.

Channel positivity
Don’t focus your energy on negative thoughts.  Where will this get you?  Nowhere good, that’s for sure.

Express yourself
This is something that many of us have a problem doing.  Sometimes we walk around bottling up how we’re feeling.  Maybe you’re having a bad day or going through a rough patch.  If there is something bothering you, have a talk with a friend you trust.  There is no shame in expressing yourself.  We all need a shoulder every now and then.

Make a difference in someone’s life
During the holiday season there is a lot of sharing with others.  Maybe you donated to a children’s home.  You can do this throughout the year.  Remember that many of these homes are forgotten until Christmas comes around again.  You can also volunteer your services at an after school program or give back through some other channel.  There are so many ways you can put a smile on someone’s face.

Spend time with family
Family is so important.  Have you been spending enough time with yours?  You have been given the chance to share another year with your loved ones.  Make a conscious decision to spend more time with your family, and follow through.

Budget
While we would all love to live like the Joneses, we need to remember that most of us simply cannot afford to spend as they do.  As such, we need to budget.  Money management is oh so important.  If you spend it all today, then what will happen tomorrow?  Also try to put something aside in your savings.

Set goals
A lot of us make resolutions for the New Year.  We saw this in an online article and thought we would share it with you…‘New Year’s resolutions are a bit like babies: They’re fun to make but extremely difficult to maintain.’  True right?  It is always a good thing to set goals for yourself as this gives you something to work towards, but you must ensure that your goals are realistic and that you put plans in place to achieve them.  You may encounter setbacks along the way but you need to maintain a spirit of perseverance.  We accomplish nothing without putting in the work.
